Pelco Parts Company History

The Maracic Family & Prince Electric Corp.

Pete & Dora Maracic

In 1964, Arsen “Pete” Maracic, his wife Dora and their two children immigrated to the United States from the Yugoslavian state of Croatia seeking a new life in the land of opportunity. They neither spoke the language nor had much in their pockets, but their entrepreneurial spirit (and necessity!) drove the couple to work incredibly hard to set their family up for success.

Pete, a trained electrician, worked several odd jobs before starting a service company in their new home of Queens, New York. In 1971, he incorporated Prince Electric Corp. – named after his shop’s location on Prince Street in downtown Flushing. Prince specialized in repairing electric motors for various commercial and industrial customers. The business soon found a niche repairing foodservice and refrigeration equipment, which led to new opportunities serving New York City’s public schools.

Pete & Chet in the 1980s

Pete took pride in hiring immigrants from other parts of the world who sought a better life in the United States. While most of these fine people came from Croatia, he welcomed many others from nations throughout Europe, South America and the Caribbean.

In 1985, Pete’s son Chet, believing there was significant opportunity to grow the core business, joined Prince. Pete and Chet worked side by side in those early years to scale up their business faithfully serving New York City’s various agencies. By 1988, Prince outgrew its existing footprint and purchased the land on which it built the 25,000 square foot facility on 26th Avenue where it still operates today. Chet became President of Prince in 1989 and has steadily grown the business ever since.

Pelco Parts

The Prince Electric fleet in the 1990s

By the mid-1990s, Prince had a bustling service business. With a large fleet of trucks, the business had a big appetite for the replacement parts its technicians needed for the job. Chet saw a clear opportunity to create a standalone parts business.

In 1995, Prince officially established Pelco Parts as a distributor of commercial refrigeration replacement parts. Out of a page in the playbook of great American industrial businesses, the name was a clever play on Prince Electric Corp.

Nick & Don in the 1990s

Pelco Parts has grown over the years from initially distributing a small number of refrigeration manufacturers to now proudly serving a broad array of the country’s finest OEMs. With the deep domain expertise of our customer service team led by Don Kushnick and Nick Averinos – who together themselves have over 85 years of combined experience in the industry – Pelco Parts is uniquely positioned to help you secure the mission-critical refrigeration parts you need.
